Role
The Monitoring Team at the BTO runs most of our large-scale bird surveys, including the Wetland Bird Survey, Breeding Bird Survey, BirdTrack, the 2007-11 Bird Atlas, Waterways Breeding Bird Survey and Heronries Census. In addition, I work to coordinate resource allocation across all of the teams within the Ecological Change Group.

Research Interests/Responsibilities
For many years, my work has mostly involved the surveillance of the UK's internationally important waterbird populations, and in disseminating the results to researchers, government, consultancies and the wider public. From 2009 onwards this remit has widened to cover the monitoring of all species groups. The aim of this work is to enhance our understanding of numbers, trends and distribution of the UK’s birds.

Advisor to Defra on wild birds and avian influenza. Interest in the colonisation of the UK by the Little Egret. Long-term birder and wildlife recorder.
