Name
Dr Staffan Roos
Position
Research Ecologist, BTO Scotland
Role
My current job is to analyse data on population trends of raptors, especially Peregrines, and arrival times of migratory birds. I am also developing research projects with particular focus on how birds are affected by human activities, such as urbanisation, wind farms and traffic noise.
Qualifications
MSc Uppsala University, Sweden, 1997. PhD Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden, 2004
Research Interests / Responsibilities

Before joining the BTO I worked with farmland birds, trying to understand how the habitat selection of red-backed shrikes are affected by abundance of nest predating corvids, such as magpies, hooded crows and jays. During a postdoc period at Queen's University Belfast I worked with birds and bumblebees in urban environments. A specific focus was to analyse how public green space affect avian diversity in private gardens.

Other Information
I am training to become a bird ringer.
