I would like to enter my BBS counts online

If you would like to set yourself up on BBS-Online to enable you to enter your BBS bird, mammal and habitat data electronically, please read on.

Why enter your data online?

1. BBS-Online provides an easy to use method for entering your BBS counts
2. BBS-Online allows the user to view historical data for their squares
3. Electronic data submission allows the BTO to collect the data much more quickly and therefore publish results from the scheme earlier in the following year.
4. Electronic data submission saves the RO and BTO a considerable amount of time and expense in data checking and data capture.

Different registration procedures are required before you can access BBS-Online, depending upon whether you are a new or existing BBS Observer.

New BBS Observers

Please read this section if you have never taken part in the BBS before. Read these instructions carefully before visiting any of the links provided.

1. If you wish to submit your BBS counts electronically using BBS-Online, please inform your RO, and email: , with details of your full name, postal address and postcode and the squares you are to survey. This information is loaded into the online database and is necessary to allow you access to the system. You will be contacted when this information has been loaded.
2. Once your details have been loaded into the online database, you may need to register as a BTO online surveys user.
If you have already registered as a BTO online surveys user (i.e. you have used either Migration Watch, BirdTrack or Garden Birdwatch Online), you will be able to enter BBS-Online using your existing user name and password - remember it is case-sensitive.
If you have not registered as a BTO online surveys user before, you will need to register. This process will identify you on the online system and establish your BTO user name and password. You will now be able to enter BBS-Online using your user name and password - remember it is case-sensitive.

If you are an existing BBS Observer who wishes to migrate from the paper form system to BBS-Online, please read the following instructions.

1. Please inform your RO that you are going to send your data online.
