Help with selecting County
To determine the county that you should use, please select the
links below to view the possible options available for BirdTrack.
Maps are available for each region to help you choose the correct
choice of county. These choices are based on the current government
county and unitary authorities defined in 1998 (local authority
districts are not represented). Further information on the partition
of the UK into county, unitary and local district authorities can
be found on the Government National Statistics web-site (here).
We have had to choose a single set of boundaries for administrative
purposes. We are aware that these boundaries do not always correspond
to areas used for bird reports and other biological recording and
we apologise to those who would have preferred us to use different
ones. However, we would like to emphasise that our main use of these
boundaries is to check grid references for serious errors. Most
data will be stored at a 1 km square resolution and we will be able
to extract data and present results using alternative boundaries
relevant to particular bird recording areas where necessary.
